About Kjerstin

Originally from northern Norway, I now live with my family at a small homestead in Villands Vånga, in the southernmost part of Sweden. We moved here in 2012 with aspirations to build a more regenerative way of life. A permaculture design of the whole site was made by my husband in 2016-17, and we have spent our time implementing, tweaking and developing it ever since. Our aim is to create a place that is not only for us, but that also invites others – both humans and other creatures and beings of the natural world. We want to leave this place in a better state than it was when we moved here.

In 2018 I came back to work after the summer holidays and experienced a feeling of total meaninglessness. I quit my office job and started a PDC course at Holma folkhögskola. In November that same year I attended a teacher’s training course at Koster, but had no intention of starting a diploma process. It took until 2022 before I realised a diploma was the only way forward if I wanted to be in control of where I was going. So I joined the NPA and started my journey towards a Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design.

I currently work as a teacher at Holma folkhögskola, teaching classes on permaculture and regenerative food. Together with my husband I also welcome people to attend different permaculture themed courses at our homestead during the warmer months of the year.

Rotad i Vånga

Today I live on a cooperative farmstead, Rotad i Vånga, in Skåne, Sweden, together with my family and those that come and grow food and stay with us. We grow food in 45 raised beds, have a cooperatively run alley cropping agroforestry system and 4 forest gardens and fruit, and nut trees all around. Ducks, chickens and bees show us that “Everything gardens”. We provide almost all the food we need on site, and also work with the local community and bioregion to co-produce to meet common needs. My now teen kids insist on instant noodles quite often thougn ????
